Four Toros ranked among best in Tri-Regions of Texas
June 6, 2017
HD Toros Elite enjoyed a great week of success and exposure. On Sunday, the Toros defeated GT Top Gun from Beaumont, 51-48, to win the AAU South Texas District championship at Alamo City All-Stars Sportsplex. Hot-shooting guards Noah Rodriguez (15 points) and Brendan Wenzel (12 points) led the Toros in the title game.
In the closing seconds, as Top Gun was trying to defend an inbounds play, Wenzel threw a perfect, length-of-the-court pass to Rodriguez, who caught the ball in stride and laid the ball in to seal the victory.
Six days earlier, Alamo City Hoops ranked three Toros among the Top 60 players in the Class of 2018 for the Tri-Regions of Texas. A fourth Toro ranks among the Top 30 players for the Class of 2019.
Alamo City ranked Wenzel, 6-4 from O’Connor High School, No. 28 in the Class of 2019. For the Class of 2018, Alamo City ranked Rodriguez, 6-2 from San Antonio Christian, No. 33, Tylen Figueroa, a 6-4 forward from Holmes, No. 45 and Allen Reyna, a 5-11 point guard from Lanier, No. 54.
Next up for HD Toros Elite: The Great American Shootout (GASO) tournament in Houston, June 17-18.
